The Fall of Polobulac tells the story of a beautiful island with ignorant people residing on it. One day they received a warning from Pride, one of the seven deadly sins, that come from the darkened clouds that poured rain on to the land. After that the people of Polobulac prayed and cried for God’s protection and vowed to change their ways but took it back the next day. As the people grew richer and unsastified with the beauty of their island they became greedier.
Every now and then they get a warning through different deadly sins but as they get richer and greedier, they also get more ignorant to the point they don't even care anymore when Sloth gave the final warning. One day the sun was hidden by blackness, and the island became surrounded by 7 huge pillars of flame. When the sky cleared Polobulac was nowhere to be found along its people, and only 7 blackened rocks marked the spot of the island in which represent the 7 deadly sins.
The story was greatly inspired by Christian Scriptures in which it can be associated with different bible stories. Polobulac represents God’s good place with undisciplined believers. Due to their negative actions their sins represents as God’s warning to them to change in the form of their sins such as pride, envy, gluttony. This story also depicted the attitudes and traits of people living in Western Visayas before which is different from their descriptions today.
