Let me tell you a story

I thought that life was meaningless but I was wrong. I was 13 years old when I thought that everyone is better off without me in their life. It was at that time I was fighting depression everyday and felt like a burden to everyone I loved. It even got worse when I was diagnosed with a heart disease. Somehow, all of my dreams and goals were shattered instantly. Everyone treated me like a fragile material that can easily break to the point it felt diminishing and humiliating. With that I asked myself what’s the point of living like this?

As days and months passed by, that kind of question amplified in my head and started to think about ways to take the easy way out. But the moment I tried to act on it, the memories of my loved will flash on my eyes then my feet was shaking and cried. In that moment I realized that i need help. Later on, I told one of my teachers what I felt and guided me to become better through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. The process wasn’t easy but i cast all of my pains through Him.

7 years passed, and I am still fighting with my new found purpose. Through those times I realized that I wanted to help people so that they won’t go through what I went through. I wanted to inspire and influence people to stand up and fight for their lives and their loved ones as well for life is something more than just a simulation but it is a battle of faith, principle and love. My name is Depzel C. Fombuena, 20 years old, and this is my story.

College Essay - What motivates you?

When I had depression, I felt like I was alone and that life wasn't worth living. But, when I found my new motivation in life I decided to dedicate myself in helping people. I wanted to be an instrument of change and influence other people that there's something more in our lives than just pain and suffering. I want to let them know that there are not alone.

But in order for me to do that, I need to start somewhere small. I wanted to take up a major that enables me to help people, that equips me with the knowledge to help someone in which I chose Physical Therapy. I believe that Far Eastern University - Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation is one of the best schools for Physical Therapy not only for its accessibility but also for its excellence in the medical field. It also let students apply their knowledge of their learning in the real world.

Some people already warned me about the difficulty of  my course but I didn't hesitate. It felt like some people don't believe in my capabilities but I am prepared for the hardships of the course whatever it takes with my new found motivation. Its the people that help, believe and love me through the good times and bad. It is also the evaluated experiences in my life that fuels me to take this course in this institution. Lastly, it is the grace of God that gives me hope and strength that I will succeed in His name.

The Fall of Polobulac - Story Analysis

The Fall of Polobulac tells the story of a beautiful island with ignorant people residing on it. One day they received a warning from Pride, one of the seven deadly sins, that come from the darkened clouds that poured rain on to the land. After that the people of Polobulac prayed and cried for God’s protection and vowed to change their ways but took it back the next day. As the people grew richer and unsastified with the beauty of their island they became greedier.

Every now and then they get a warning through different deadly sins but as they get richer and greedier, they also get more ignorant to the point they don't even care anymore when Sloth gave the final warning. One day the sun was hidden by blackness, and the island became surrounded by 7 huge pillars of flame. When the sky cleared Polobulac was nowhere to be found along its people, and only 7 blackened rocks marked the spot of the island in which represent the 7 deadly sins.

The story was greatly inspired by Christian Scriptures in which it can be associated with different bible stories. Polobulac represents God’s good place with undisciplined believers. Due to their negative actions their sins represents as God’s warning to them to change in the form of their sins such as pride, envy, gluttony. This story also depicted the attitudes and traits of people living in Western Visayas before which is different from their descriptions today.
